Description of Humberto Delgado Airport

Lisbon has one airport that handles all international and domestic flights, the Humberto Delgado Airport [LIS], also called Lisbon Airport. With around 29 million passengers per year, it is the main airport and the largest airport in Portugal. In addition, it serves as a hub for the national airline TAP Air Portugal.

Lisbon Airport is located 7 kilometers northeast from the city center and therefore easy to reach.

Previously known as Portela Airport, Lisbon Airport has been named Humberto since 2016 in memory of the late famous politician and Portuguese Air Force General.

  • Aerobus Shuttle: The Aerobus shuttle service provides three routes that transport passengers to several strategic points in the city. Parking at the Airport

Lisbon Airport provides several car parks located inside the airport premises. Arriving and departing passengers can use the covered and open parking areas of ANA Parking. They are all located at Terminal 1.

You can book a parking spot in advance to secure your spot. More information here.

In addition, the ValetXpress extra service is available, where a driver will park your car and hand you your car keys after your return.

For picking up and dropping off passengers, there are designated parking areas at the departure curbside, the so-called Kiss & Fly parking spaces. Here, it is possible to stop for two non-sequential periods of ten minutes.

Taxi, Uber & Bolt

Once at the airport, you will have no problem finding a taxi. They are usually lined up in front of the departure and arrival terminals.

The basic fee for a taxi in Lisbon is currently 3.25€, the kilometer price is 0.47€. Standing and waiting times are charged at 14.80 € per hour. Note that a luggage fee of 1.80€ is charged (all luggage, not per piece).

It takes about 20 minutes, depending on traffic. The approximate price for the trip from the airport to the center is about 15 €, including luggage fee.

  • Important: Please make sure that the taxi meter is switched on.

Uber

An alternative to Taxis is Uber. However, the prices are slightly lower than regular taxis.

One drawback is that Uber is not allowed to stop outside the arrival terminal, so sometimes it may be tricky to find the pickup location.

Bolt

Bolt is essentially Portugal’s version of Uber. It is the most popular ridesharing service in the country. Prices are much cheaper than Uber, which is why locals prefer to use Bolt.  You can find more information on Bolt and Uber here.

Tip: We recommend downloading the Bolt app in advance so you can get a quick airport transfer and cheap rides within the city. In addition, you can use the app to use the electric scooters in Lisbon and to order food.
